Hello everyone, Super long time no see! I took a break from RUclips but I'm back with an update on my Chinese progress and some upcoming vlogs of my first time in China! I never thought I'd film a video in Chinese, and I can honestly say that it was a super difficult video to make (especially the tedious task of making subtitles in two languages). But I'm finally sharing with you the progress I...

The crazy part about this video is I feel a lot better about being an American. The fact that someone giving you a compliment on your outfit bothers you, to me, is ridiculous. And you would never let your children dress how they want and or do their hair how they would like.... 🤦‍♂️. I'm done... I can't!

Impressive (but actually this is what to expect with a thought through structured systematic approach, plus sufficient time put aside every day - you obviously did all that - and got the results). The link to the 中文 series is dead, and 中文 is a very generic term. But with 暨南中文 you can find them. And if you follow the ... //old.hwjyw..... link you can find the PDFs for ALL study and workbooks - free! Bonus: If you find the link to the old books, there are beside the workbook 2 more excercise books for each 1-12 book - so there are 48 books to download!

You are correct about personal info. Lifelong friends will learn over time what your likes and habits are, and you find a role in that circle over a span of years. But Americans are constantly required to fit into new groups, and information that might help you fit in-and that the new group feels Is important-- has to be exchanged in a relative hurry. My American family members-including in-laws-like to draw my attention to things they notice about strangers’ clothing or actions or other features than are no one’s business. They don’t say it to that person, but they say it to me loud enough for others to hear. Even if their comments are complimentary, it’s rude. So the customary time for lunch was 2 pm, but you would go at some other time because 1:30 or so was more convenient for you? Hm. That sounds a bit…American, to me.😄 I am shocked, gratified, and a little horrified to hear someone describe our institutions and bureaucracies as efficient. However, “Make it better” IS deeply ingrained in the American DNA.

15:00 i disagree a bit with this thought, let me explain why In Chinese especially, words that you think aren't that useful to study, will come handy later. In university all my classmates (including me) were complaining about us having to study how to write magnetic tape 磁带 (ci2 dai4), because who uses those anymore to listen to music?? But later on, I found out that fridge magnet is 磁铁 and that necktie is 领带, then something clicked into my mind and it all made sense. As well as another chinese word: mao2dun4 矛盾 meaning contradiction, but literaly meaning just spear and shield. (The reason was because of a story of merchant selling the sharpest spear that no shield could resist, but also selling the most resistant shield that no spear could scrach. So that was a contraddiction...) But anyway, even though you think it isnt very useful to learn how to say sword of words like that, its always good to know!
